Design from the early 1970s: Bauernbesteck (Farmer Cutlery/Landhaus 2300) by Jørgen Dahlerup (1930-2015, Denmark) for Wüsthof Dreizackwerk in Solingen, Germany.

This cutlery artfully combines metal and wood in a now-classic manner. The fork and spoon boast uniquely shaped, perfect curves. The knife is crafted from monoblock steel, displaying a remarkably sharp cutting edge. Its simplicity and elegance, coupled with the timeless combination of wood and metal, create a stunning design piece. The shapes of the knife, fork, and spoon are sophisticated yet simple and functional – a harmonious blend of modernity with the rustic charm of traditional wooden handles. A synthesis of contemporary design and timeless tradition. I notice some similarities with David Mellor’s Provencal cutlery, but I find the fork, knife, and spoon by Jørgen a bit more appealing, with the handle from David Mellor being the exception for its nicer shape. An alternative version features handles with identical black plastic parts.
